Name above every name

Three years after my native land (Liberia) was engulfed in a brutal civil war, I found myself in a foreign land trying to pick up the pieces of tragic loss. My father was dead, rebel soldiers were living in our home and the rest of the family lived in La Côte d’Ivoire among a people of strange tongue.

Fortunately for me and my family, Jesus Christ had become not only a Savior but also a very close friend and we were enjoying a time of revival through the ministry of my spiritual father (Forrest Beiser) who was an American missionary to La Côte d’Ivoire.

One evening as I walk home from church, I lived about a mile from church in the Riviera, residential area, I noticed a man walking toward me. The stench of liquor and rotten flesh went before him. I was kind of afraid at first, but when I realized he was limping I grew confident that I could him on if attacked.

Just as he passed me by, he stopped and said to me, “Did you say JESUS?” See, I’d been saying the name from the time I lay eyes on him up to that moment. I said yes, turning to face him. I looked down at his feet and they were covered in blisters of oozing sores. It didn’t look like he had any medical attention for weeks, so he was painfully dragging himself around.

I offered to pray for him right there on that dark Wednesday evening and he accepted. Midway through my prayer, he grabbed his feet and started checking to see what had just happened. Than he started jumping than running back and forth. And could hear him scream – “the pain is gone – the pain is gone.”

He was completely healed. I am not quite sure about his intoxication, but I knew for sure that something miraculous had happened in his life, and it wasn’t anything I had done in my power or ability to make that happen. It was by the power of Jesus Name.

  • That name can open blinded eyes
  • That name can set the captives free
  • That name can heal the broken-hearted
  • That name can move mountains
  • That name can make crooked places straight
  • That name can protect you from every snare

At the mention of that name demons tremble

At the mention of that name knees bow, and tongues confess

at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Philippians 2:9-11

There is power in the name of Jesus of Jesus!

We are to have faith in the name of Jesus – Acts 3:16
We to pray in the name of Jesus – John 14:14

And we must expect to see the miracles accompanying us as we proclaim the name of Jesus:

  • they will speak in new tongues
  • they will pick up snakes with their hands… such as (Acts 28:5)
  • when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all
  • they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Mark 16:16-18

The name is not just something we attach to the end of our prayer. It is neither a magical charm we us to get things done on our behalf. It is the name through which we live and move and have our being; our salvation; our hope for tomorrow and our defense against the prince of darkness.

So take the name of Jesus with you everywhere you go…

At that name bowing,
At that name Falling
Claim His victory over evil
And the enemy defeat.
