Allow me to ask you one or two questions. Is what you are doing now getting you closer to your goals? Are you headed in the direction that is helping you fulfill your dreams, are you satisfy with your level of commitment to projects and plans and are you giving 110 percent to maintaining your priorities?

Well, here are a few words of motivation and encouragement. We all know that the sun is a powerful source of energy. Every second and every hour the sun shines down on the earth pouring billions of kilowatts of energy. Yet, you and I have not become BBQ for I don’t know who.

A laser on the other hand is a weak source of energy. A laser takes a few watts of energy and focuses them in a coherent stream of light. But with a laser you can drill a hole in a diamond or wipe out a cancer from the skin and more.

How does this relate to anything scriptural? Well, here is what Paul says in Philippians. Philippians 3:13-14, TLB. “No, dear brothers, I am still not all I should be but I am bringing all my energies to bear on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God is calling us up to heaven because of what Christ Jesus did for us.”

I love the translation of this verse! “I am bringing all my energies to bear on this one thing.” This is what I call intentional focus. I am giving everything I have in order to achieve my goals. I have seen this constantly and first hand in the life of my wife who just graduated summa cum laude in Accounting. It was the energy she brought to bear on being a wife, a mother of two, a full-time student and a pastor’s wife.

There were days, I thought she would give up, days I saw her broken and tired. But like laser sharp focus she pressed on toward her goal. Now she is reaping the fruit of her hard work. It doesn’t matter what your goals are, they could be spiritual, professional, vocational or starting and growing a new business – you can succeed if you bring all you energy to bear on that one thing. Relationships can thrive, churches can grow,

  1. Our church leaders just did a study on the book Good to Great. It has some great pointers along these same lines. God bless!
