Bible Trivia on Steroids?

Get ready for the American Bible Challenge.
Okay, there is a new game show coming to the Game Show Network. It is a bible trivia kind of a deal and will be starting sometime in August of this year. Is there anyone out there that would like to be a part of it if you had an opportunity? For me, no! Not because it’s a bad idea to make lots of money to give away to charities, but because I don’t want to disgrace myself on mainstream television by missing question about the bible.

Here is a little breakdown of what it’s about:
The Show
The American Bible Challenge is a spirited game show that will celebrate the Bible and its place in American culture. Bible enthusiasts from all across the country will compete in a variety of challenges that put their knowledge of the Good Book to the test.

The Host
Comedian Jeff Foxworthy is the largest selling comedy-recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy® Award nominee and the best-selling author of 11 books. Widely known for his redneck jokes, his act goes well beyond that to explore the humor in everyday family interactions and human nature.

The Time/Schedule
PREMIERES AUGUST 23
THURSDAY 8/7c

So, here are a few questions:
Is this a great idea?
Is this a bad idea?
Would you audition for the show?

I would love to hear from you.

  1. Well, since you asked – no, I would not. I don’t think of the Bible as trivia or as something to be played around with. I’m probably in the minority in that thinking, but I believe the Bible is to be revered and not made into a game.

    • Thanks a million for the feedback. First of all, it is okay to be in the minority. Some times we have to stand by what we believe even if it is unpopular. So, it’s okay! On ther hand, I don’t know much about the show and can’t speak for it, but I doubt it is going to be irreverent. If they choose to go down that road, i don’t think it will last long. I do agree that the Bible needs to be revered, but at the same time it needs to talked about in the public square. This was the whole idea of Luther’s reformation, right, to get the Bible out from that place where it was revered but never read into the hands of the common man. The show is no reformation by any stretch of imagination, but if it gets people open the book, why not…?
