Small stuff matters

As the creator and ruler of all that is, God is in control of everything. He is Lord over all. He holds the world in the palm of his hand. But sometimes we forget to remember that he is not only concerned about the big things of life, but he is equally concerned about the little things – even the little things happening in our lives.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.Matthew 10:29-31

God watches over the tiniest most insignificant things in our lives.

The word translated penny in our text is used proverbially to signify a very little thing. It is also rendered as a little piece of money and was the common prize of two sparrows. In fact, in the book of Luke, five sparrows were sold for two pennies, which makes them somewhat cheaper still (12:6). This shows they were of little account. Yet, God is concerned about every detail of their lives. The reference to numbering the hairs of the head suggests the infinite detail and solicitude of that loving care lavished by the Father upon his creation.

The message of this passage is simply that of God’s providential care for his children, even in the face of persecution, danger and fear. It is a message that instructs us to understand or become aware of the fact that our lives and everything about us are more valuable than that of Sparrows. And if the God of the universe is concerned about the well-being of sparrows, he certainly is about us and everything concerning us.

So, when tempted to doubt, when the clouds arise, when hope within you dies, ask yourself these questions like the song writer did: Why should I be discouraged…why should the shadows come… Why must heart be lonely…? Remind yourself that Jesus is your portion, a constant friend indeed… That His eyes are on the Sparrow and you are 100 % certain that He is watching over you.

amen Walter! when i look back on the time that I was homeless, I realize I looked to the world from my worth….and saw none. Now, I see only what God assesses as my worth and nothing more! Good read today!
