Arrested by Stealth

Mark 14:1 ESV

It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him.

Stealth comes from an Old English word related to steal. No thief steals openly.

When translated as a noun: stealth means cautious and surreptitious action or movement.

Synonyms:furtiveness, secretiveness, secrecy,surreptitiousness, sneakiness, slyness

Have you ever heard about the stealth bomber? This aircraft was designed in accordance with technology that makes detection by radar or sonar difficult.

The scripture calls Satan

The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy.  John 10:10

When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar (falsifier) and the father of lies.  John 8:44

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness (power of obscurity) transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.  Colossians 1:13

But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning (sly, tricky, sneaky, scheming, deceptive) your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.  2 Corinthians 11:3

For these reasons, the Bible urges us to remain sober, vigilant,  alert and discerning.  Because we can not afford to be ignorant to the schemes of the devil.

There are many examples in the bible about his operations and lies, but let me limit them to a few here in Mark 14:

“You don’t have to be this radical,” some would say.  Here in this chapter, they took offense at her extravagant worship and devotion.

Spiritual Pride
“You can do this.  Just believe in yourself. You don’t need God,” some would argue. Peter’s spiritual pride led to his downfall.

False Comforts
In this chapter, Peter is seen warming himself at the fire in the public square. This speaks of how we love to warm ourselves with false comforts.  The deceitfulness of riches, the love of money, this world’s goods.   It was a financial opportunity that made Judas betray Jesus.

Demonic propositions
Judas first had thoughts.  He acted upon them.  His repeated actions opened him up to satanic possession.  John 13:27 say after this Satan entered.

Spiritual heaviness
Their eyes were heavy.  They became lazy in prayer. Distractions and attractions often take us away from focusing on the most important things.

Fall away on Account of others.
The devil usually entices us to walk away from following Jesus because of somebody’s sins.

Overwhelming burden
If Jesus was truly tempted in every way, than he was even tempted to avoid the cross.  What does that say about you?

If you are walking in un-forgiveness or if there is any bitter root in you, there is a strong possibility that Satan is flying below your spiritual radar.

If there is constant strife, diversion,  fights and quarrel in your life and relationship, that could be an indication that Satan is flying below your spiritual radar.

What you don’t know can hurt you!

God doesn’t want us to remain ignorant to the devil’s schemes,  so He provided the sound ways to detect and destroy  flaming darts (stealth bombers) of the evil one.
